The initial phone screen with the recruiter was normal, light and cordial. I was asked my salary expectations and learned the role’s pay range was at least 11% below my asking salary. Nevertheless, I agreed to continue the interview process knowing there are intangibles that could offset the difference in pay. Twenty minutes before the scheduled second interview a member of the talent acquisition team called, leaving a voicemail that the asking salary is too high and she cancelled the interview. If I’d like to continue discussions at the lower salary range, contact the recruiter.
This is a complete disrespect for my time. Consider how irritated Aetna’s managers would be if a candidate called to cancel twenty minutes before a scheduled interview. What’s more is the lack of critical thought: the lower salary range was already explained and I agreed to move forward, indicating a willingness to entertain the lower compensation.
