      Product Manager Interview

      Aug 7, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Affirm (San Francisco, CA) in Jun 2015

      Interview

While the recruiter was cold and transactional, using very (obviously) canned 'Hi, nice to meet you' as well as the ultimate 'no thanks' emails, the call with the hiring manager was pretty good. He asked about my background as well as information about credit, how I see credit cards, financial management, etc. Reading between the lines it was interesting to see where the company is looking to grow. Unfortunately, even after talking with the hiring manager for 45 minutes or so, I got was a generic rejection letter about a week later after my following up with them. When I asked for feedback the recruiter admitted that they didn't even ask the hiring manager but they hypothesized that it may have been this or that. It was insulting that she didn't care enough to ask the manager. Guesses about why were useless in terms of feedback and ultimately made no sense given the depth of conversation I had with the hiring manger. It's fine if a company wants to move on with someone else, but at least respectful enough to give feedback, not an "I think he needed....". I'm surprised they don't care very much about the impression they leave on people who are/were excited about the company. All in all between the canned emails and disregard for the candidate experience compelled me to give Affirm a negative rating for the interview process.

Thank you very much for the constructive feedback. We are a small but growing company, hungry for ways to improve. Since receiving this feedback, we've met as a team and discussed ways to improve our process, especially in providing feedback to candidates directly from the hiring manager. We've also discussed ways in which we can improve our recruiter's presence even when she's under the weather. We deeply care about the candidate experience and are very grateful for this posting. We will definitely make sure all future candidates benefit from this feedback.

I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Affirm (Michigan City, MS) in Jul 2024

      Interview

One call with an internal recruiter where I was asked to go over each experience in my resume one at a time. I had applied over 5 months before I got this interview invite but the person I spoke with did not seem to know the exact role I had applied for. The call also seemed like a routine call just to cover the basics and I was told that the notes would be passed to the hiring team.
