      Flight Paramedic Interview

      Jul 16, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Spokane, WA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Air Methods (Spokane, WA) in May 2018

      Interview

I've seen a lot of crying and complaining about how long the process is . Yes, my start date is 6 days short of 4 months from when I first applied so there is no doubt it's a lengthy process. But consider what you are applying for and what the job entails. I know when I get in the air I want to know my partner was vetted and chosen as carefully as I was. And if you feel your experience entitles you to circumvent the process you're not ready yet. The average flight paramedic position receives approximately 225 applications with some receiving well over a thousand... for one opening. If you get you panties in a bunch over not getting a call back how in the hell are you gonna handle a call where the patient is going to hell in a hand basket? Lol. The process itself worked like this. I applied on March 29th. On April 1 I received an email to set up a phone interview with a recruiter. 2 days later (April 3) I spoke to the recruiter for about 30 minutes even though you are scheduled for 15. She pretty much explains the basics, approximate pay, benefits, locations ect. Just a gross overview to see if you're still interested. If you're still interested they invite you to take their critical care test. You have one week to take the test...use every minute you can studying. It's done online and it's impossible to cheat so don't even bother thinking of ways. It is recorded and monitored live. They actually make you keep a mirror close by and it's a bit bizzare. This test has a a first time pass rate of about 35%. I took mine April 9. It was NO joke and it really thins the herd. Worst part though was it took till the next day to get my results. If you pass you get an email to set up a phone interview with the area manager for where you applied. My phone interview was April 18. This interview is rather relaxed with the basic yet sometimes difficult questions. But don't bull turd and don't be pulling answers of YouTube. Genuiley know what your weaknesses and strengths are. These people do thousands and thousands of interviews a year. How often do you think they get the same generic YouTube answer? Next comes the in person and scenario interviews. But this might take a while. They have hundreds of applications and they did not get through them all in one day. And before they spend a couple grand on air fare, hotel, rental car and the man power to bring you in they are going to take their time to mull it over. They aren't going to fly in 30 applicants. Anyways my in person interviews and scenarios were on May 9th. They were hard, especially the scenarios but I honestly felt they could and should have been harder. May 31 they extended an informal offer because I had told them I wasn't going to spend the 290 dollars on reciprocity unless I needed to. . My recruiter completely understood and advised me it was pretty safe to do so. Now... I don't blame AM for the entire nearly 4 months because the state I applied for reciprocity with took a long damn time. June 28 I received my reciprocity and July second I had my official contingent phone offer and offer letter in hand. They set up your orientation dates and at this point is when they do your background and drug test. They use an outside agency for your background check and they check EVERYTHING. I actually had to provide tax returns for two year because one of my former employers went out of business and couldn't be contacted. If you have a dot failed drug screen it will come up. They will verify anything and everything you put on your resume/application. Credit check...the whole 9 yards. I previously had a top secret clearance and it was equal to that background check. Once that clears you get your travel arrangements for orientation and more paperwork to fill out, upload a picture for your ID and you're on your way. Although it's a long process there were no surpirsses. They were transparent the entire time and I never had a problem contacting anyone. I see a lot of people complaining about stuff there was no way they didn't know about before they accepted the job!

      Interview

Apply online, recruiter will review your application and if you meet the minimum requirements you will get contacted to take the written exam. It is somewhat challenging but easily passable. If you are studying already for your FP-C or CFRN you will be just fine, it is way easier than those exams. If you pass you will do a clinical interview. After that, background check, health physical, and eventually go to Denver.
