Really disappointed with my experience interviewing with Airtable. To be clear, I think the product and team are great, but the interview process seriously lacks professionalism and transparency.
After multiple rounds of in-person and phone interviews, I made it to the penultimate round of the Product Specialist interview, which is a very lengthy take-home assignment. I appreciated that it was paid (you receive an Amazon gift card upon completion), since I spent a good 8+ hours on the questions while balancing a full-time job.
2 days after sending my assignment in, I received my rejection email. It was a generic, canned response that offered no reason for rejection or any feedback on my project whatsoever. It was a vague, impersonal email that seemed to not respect the many hours I had put into the interview process.
The Airtable team refused to give me any feedback on my assignment even after I had asked, and then stopped replying completely. I first asked the recruiter for feedback—in my experience, companies typically provide feedback out of courtesy if you've completed a long assignment in the final rounds of an interview. If not feedback, companies usually provide a reason for rejection other than the generic "there isn't a fit at this time." I then reached out to each person I had an in-person interview with for feedback, but no one on the team responded.
I do have faith in Airtable's product and the several teammates I interviewed with. If anyone at Airtable is reading this, I urge you to review your interview process as you continue to build out your team, and please be considerate towards every applicant.
