Started off with a ~5hr independent programming assignment instead of the typical phone screen or coding challenge. Was compensated for my time doing the assignment with a $200 gift card (this was not dependent on the outcome of the assignment). Next step was an onsite in SF where I had six interviews. There was one traditional algorithms interview (but more focused on practical design than typical leetcode), two systems design interviews, one real-world coding interview (on laptop, in language of your choice), one real-world bug hunting interview (in JS but no JS experience required, they were very helpful in clarifying any language specific things), and a code review session going over my code from the original programming assignment. It was a long day, but a fantastic experience! It was different than your normal leetcode/Google style algorithm interviews, and it gave me a much better sense of the team and what they were working on. Many of the system design questions were directly related to the types of challenges they were dealing with, giving first-hand insight into some of the projects you could be working on after joining. After the on-site they got back within a couple days and moved onto references, then the offer was received shortly after that. Overall it was a smooth and pleasant experience, and honestly the best interview experience I've ever had. The positive interactions with the team, both during during the on-site and outside of it, were a major factor in my decision to choose Airtable over my other offers.
