I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Airwallex
Interview
My experience with the recruiter at Airwallex was deeply disappointing. She was dismissive, condescending, and exuded an air of elitism that made the entire process feel unwelcoming. Ironically, her LinkedIn profile claims that 'People are everything'; yet her behaviour suggested otherwise. The way she 'sold' Airwallex made it clear that only those deemed 'smart enough' would survive, reinforcing an exclusionary and toxic mindset. She also seemed to look down on Singaporean accents, which speaks volumes about her attitude.
It's baffling how someone with such an approach remains in this industry. If this is reflective of Airwallex’s hiring culture, I’d be deeply concerned about how they treat their employees. The product design world is small, and your reputation follows you. You may have worked in SF, but you're in Singapore now.
Don't people realise that HR often shapes a candidate's very first impression of a company?
I had a conversation with the Recruiter, but my initial impression wasn't very positive. Not a friendly vibe at all. I was cut off almost immediately when they learned I was looking to be remote.
This position has been open for a few months now, so I’m assuming it's a key role, especially since I was told it reports directly to the executive level.
Thank you for your feedback. We regret that your experience didn’t feel as welcoming as it should have. Once we learned you were seeking a remote role and this position required on-site work, we wanted to be mindful of your time as we're investing in assembling teams that can work and learn from each other in person. That said, we’re working on improving how we communicate with candidates to ensure a more positive and respectful process. We appreciate your input and your interest in Airwallex.
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Airwallex (Singapore) in Dec 2024
Interview
Was invited for an interview with the airwallex internal recruiter, replied to her email on what are my available dates, waited for 1 whole week for her to reply and she tell me she missed out my email.
And finally managed to schedule a time, she introduce about herself and about the company. Asked me to introduce myself. everything went so super fast i think it only less than 10mins, I feel the recruiter was rushing and maybe don't feel like she want to do the interview.
Thereafter, they wasn't any update from the recruiter even i tried to send her multiple emails to check for update, but no reply at all. Its been 2 month since the last email i sent her. Totally not responsive, very bad experience.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about yourself and what you've done in your previous company?
We appreciate your feedback and we’re sorry your experience didn’t meet expectations. We understand how frustrating delays and rushed conversations can be, and an 8+ week gap without updates is unacceptable. We’re looking into what happened so we can learn from it and improve our process moving forward.
