Thanks for taking the time to come and see us for an interview, and for writing this review. Sorry the whole process seemed a bit burdensome for you. We do what we can to make it an engaging process which doesn’t feel like a waste of time for those who don’t end up working with us, but the bottom line is that a little business like ours depends on getting great people at least as much as any big company, so we have to put even more effort into making sure we recruit people who are a good fit. And that means our application and interview process is pretty thorough. The reason we put so much effort into the intern programme is not just that interns can do great things with us over the summer when they work here – which they do – but also because it constitutes such an important detail in our overall recruiting strategy, because so many stay on and become graduate engineers with us.
Just an important point of fact: on a time-worked basis, we pay our interns about what they’d earn as a graduate engineer, and that’s actually one of the most competitive packages in British engineering. So it’s definitely not a minimum-wage deal, as you suggest.
Best of luck with the journey.
