I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in Aug 2014
Interview
I was prepped by recruiting to understand object-oriented programming, algorithms, and data structures, to which I was well qualified for. The technical interview was great to introduce me to HackerRank where I could be tele-assessed on my methodologies without the pressure being being there in-person. This interview was also based on various models and scenarios on how to optimize a solution.
Everything went well so I was flown in for a face-to-face interview and meet with the team I could be working with. It was a series of 6 interviewers back-to-back with a break. The curve ball came when I was asked topics on how I would create a UI with a specific layout. Granted I had the knowledge of excellent front-end design and development, I was nowhere near prepared to handle this experience when I was brushed up on theoretical designs and algorithms. With each interview, I kept wondering where my thirst for code optimizations and data structures would come into play; but I found myself with writer's block when needing to whiteboard the user interface.
Needless to say, I felt like I had bombed that part of the interview because I believe I was interviewed for another position (Web Development Engineer) before arriving to Seattle.
