I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Vancouver, BC) in Apr 2018
Interview
I received an invitation for a phone interview and the recruiter specifically mentioned that it will be in depth technical interview. Guess what happened when I got the call? Typical behavioural questions that were read from the paper. The fist question was to tell about yourself where I was interrupted after 20 seconds and asked how would you show this and that quality related to leadership principles.
The interviewer did not bother relating the questions to my experience and it felt like they were going through the checklist without understanding who they are talking to.
Once all the questions were done I was left with 15 minutes and asked a coding question that would take some time. I did not do that well and when I left with 1 minute I finally had a chance to ask questions. The answers seemed evasive and just very generic without any specifics.
Through the talk I felt like I was talking to a zombie or a robot. I understand that Engineers are not most talkative people, but I would expect at least some sort of emotions in responses. I specifically tried to brake the ice, but the interviewer ignored everything. You can imagine when you are giving a talk about something you are passionate that people would have a certain reaction (it was related to the applied position).

Question 1
How do you manage the disagreement at your workplace.
During the coding round, I was thrown a problem on edit distance that felt eerily familiar. Mid-way through, I realized it was the same question I had practiced on PracHub just a few days earlier. The interview included a system design question about the Amazon Locker service, which required me to think through various components and customer flows. The final round involved behavioral questions that focused on leadership principles. Overall, the process was challenging but fair, and I was thrilled to receive an offer that I happily accepted.

Question 1
Compute the edit distance between two strings and walk through the DP table and optimizations.
The journey began with an online assessment containing two coding problems (one algorithmic, one mathematical) and a brief work-style survey. Following a successful screen, I completed a 45-minute phone interview focused entirely on behavioral questions, requiring me to recount past experiences using the STAR method
