I interviewed at Amazon Web Services (Arlington, VA)
Interview
Overall, very lengthy, 5 interviews in one day makes a long day. Each interviewee has guidelines they must follow. But overall, very eye-opening. They also stick to a very tight window from start to finish.
Typical loop. 5 interviews in one day with standard STAR based questions. Meeting stakeholders across the org and explaining your relevant experience. Long day that can be tough if you have not prepared.
I applied online. I interviewed at Amazon Web Services (Melbourne) in Dec 2024
Interview
I had a chat with the recruiter, who was lovely but clearly had about as much intel on the role as I did. It’s a new role, so fair enough. Then came the interview with the Hiring Manager. Within 3 seconds, I could tell they weren’t exactly picturing me in the role – I think my odds were better of getting a job as a magician than this gig. The interviewer/hiring manager was sloppy and lacked enthusiasm and I could tell they wanted to knock off for the day. Just because you are AWS doesn't mean it's ok to waste people's time. That's abuse.
Instead of the usual STAR-style questions, it was a Q&A , from me to them, where I got to learn all about the role I wouldn’t be doing. They didn’t just ghost me – they pulled the plug before I even had the chance to trip over a tricky hypothetical! On the bright side, at least I didn’t have to stress about what to wear to the next round.

Question 1
I asked all the questions. AWS asked absolutely ZERO.
