I applied in-person. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at America's Best (Springfield, MO) in Jun 2013
Interview
I interviewed with the General Manager for an optician position. As I have considerable optical experience, she was eager to speak with me. Frankly, she seemed a little desperate to fill the position. Her questions were not really about my skills as an optician. They were more about how well I would sell in a high pressure environment, meeting sales goals and the like. Of course, we know that the company's advertisement is all about 2 pairs for $**, and the job of the optician is to convince the patients that they need to spend more. Much more if they want quality. If one cannot effectively upsell, one is seen as doing a poor job.
The General Manager explained that she is evaluated by how well her store reaches sales goals, and so I would be. Pressure would be applied if those goals were not met regularly.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at America's Best (Baton Rouge, LA)
Interview
I didn’t apply for Americas Best, received a request from indeed that they were interested. The interview was okay. Ended up being told that they’d been interviewing for 2 weeks and had a few more interviews to go, that part I didn’t like and knew it was a no-go. STAR method questions. “Tell me about a time..
As long as you can answer yes or no questions, you are hired. I’m sure even if you couldn’t answer yes or no questions, you’d still be hired. It’s an easy process and they are usually extremely short staffed with a high turnover rate so they are always desperate for people.
First interview is with the two assistant managers, individually. If they both agree you would be a good candidate, you will be called in for a second interview with the store manager.
