The interview process with American Airlines was awesome. Once I realized I made it to the Face to Face in Dallas, I immediately started researching everything I could about the interview. So if you're here trying to figure out how to succeed in the interview, you're already ahead of others. Read other reviews, because they are extremely accurate. They fly you out to Dallas and give you the option of whether or not you want to fly the same day, or the day before. I came the same day so I didn't have to deal with hotel and transportation by myself. I arrived at the airport and did what the instructions said, went to where I needed to wait for a shuttle, and one came. We made a stop at another terminal and picked up someone else who I assumed flew in for the interview as well. When we both got off at the training and conference center, I struck up a conversation with her before we even got inside. (Pro tip: tip your shuttle driver). Making friends is one of the most important things you can do on your interview day. Not only will it make you feel more relaxed, but the recruiters want to see someone who is personable, as that is a part of the job! We were some of the first to arrive, so we sat and talked with more interviewees as they arrived, until eventually a man came out to lead all of us to the interview room. There were about a little over 50 of us total. We were brought to the room and given a short writing assignment which asked who we would want to sit next to on a long flight. We had to give some passport information. Next, we were split up into groups of about seven and taken to another room. We had to do an activity which involved building a 3D model with blocks. The main point of this activity is not that you correctly build the model, but that you interact with your team well. Take the lead if you feel you need to, but also make sure you are listening to and encouraging others! I personally felt that this was the best part of my entire interview day because I thought I took the lead when needed, but also encouraged others to participate and made sure to compliment them. Next, a recruiter will ask a few questions about the task and how you felt it went. Then, another recruiter will conduct a group interview. MAKE SURE YOU VOLUNTEER TO ANSWER AT LEAST ONE QUESTION FIRST. This is very important as it shows you can take initiative. The entire time all of this is happening there will also be other recruiters walking around to watch you, so make sure you are smiling throughout the ENTIRE day and have good posture. These two group activities are the main part of the entire day, and they happen very fast so make sure you stand out, but in a good way (don't be too forceful or try to take the lead too much, because that is not good either). Next, you are taken back into the big room with everyone, and they tell you this is the end of the main interview. They show you a video and then open a question and answer session. Gradually, they start calling people out one by one. Some people are lead directly out and do not get a one on one interview. If this is the case, I'm 99% positive that all of these people do not get the job. If you are taken to another room, there will be two recruiters who interview you further, right after you do a reach test and sit in a jump seat. The recruiters then asked me about my resume and some experiences; personally for me, it seemed like they had already decided I got the job based on the language of one of the recruiters. This is not always the case though; one of the friends I made for the day got a one on one, but did not get the job. Afterwards, one of them walked me out and told me I would hear back in 5-7 days. ELEVEN days later, I received a call saying they were sorry it took so long, but I got the job. This is why it is such a good reason to make friends and exchange numbers!! I got two girls' numbers while I was there. On the seventh day after the interview, they both got rejection emails. I never got one, so I had some hope and sure enough I got the job. I also am pretty sure that at this point, they are doing drug testing and fingerprinting the day of your interview if you got the job, so watch out for that! I would say the most important thing to remember is to smile the whole day, and be yourself. When you are saying hello and goodbye to recruiters throughout the day, a great thing to do is say their name!! This will help you stand out.
