A former colleague of mine was working with the organization and hiring for a new position there. I had turned in a resume for a job posting that I was slightly unqualified for. He saw my resume in that batch and asked me to consider applying for this new position instead. I sent in an application (a cover letter and resume). They ended up delaying because of the holidays, and then eventually conducted a phone interview with a panel. It was fairly hard with lots of hypothetical questions. Then they did an in person interview. That was much more laid back and conversational. It took quite a long time before I received and accepted an offer.
