      Travel and Lifestyle Consultant Interview

      Apr 27, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at American Express

      Interview

I applied online, the process took quite a while as you had to talk about achievements at your previous employment and I tried to incorporate as much as I could from the Travel and Lifestyle Consultant job specification to give me the best chance. Two days after I applied I was contacted by a Sourcing Partner in the AMEX Recruitment team, who said they would like to contact me for a telephone interview. I organised the interview for less than 2 days later. I spent several hours researching the company, preparing potential questions and answers, all the while feeling the usual level of anxiety one has for a job interview. On the day of the interview, five minutes before it was due to begin, I checked my email. It was the same Sourcing Partner, telling me there would be no interview as they had already filled the job position. I'm sure you know how I felt.

      Interview

The interview process was not easy but not difficult. Especially if you prepare. They are big on the star method. The recruiter walks you through the entire process to make sure you are ready. There are two interviews one is with the recruiter and the other is a group interview.

      Interview

For the WAH position multiple candidates are invited to a webmeet where they are given a very brief breakdown of what the job entails. Slightly misleading as the job description is maybe 5% of what you actually end up doing. Then you have a brief meeting where you do a little bit of role play with a hiring agent, and you are able to ask questions that come to mind. If chosen for hire based off of the brief interaction with a hiring agent, the hiring process is quite lengthy since this is a bank.

Build and sell a destination travel package for someone interested in travel who is not sure where to travel.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at American Express (Toronto, ON) in Oct 2022

      Interview

Got an email to arrange a phone interview and gave a time I was available to call. The recruiter didn’t respect my availability and called me an hour before I said I was available so that was rude. And then the whole time she was not very friendly/acted annoyed when I would ask her to repeat the question, and told me the start date wasn’t until 3 months from now…Like why wouldn’t they have posted that on the job application? I would’ve never applied if I knew that information. Overall bad experience and the role sounded awful basically a call centre position and rotational shifts, no say in what schedule you get.
