I was contracted by a recruiter who set up the interview and was helpful and communicative in doing so. My due diligence before hand gave me a clear idea that this would be primarily a sales and commission based opportunity. I understood what the Benefit's Coordinator position was about before I set foot in their office.
On arrival it was clear there were several other candidates going through the same process with me. There was very little waiting before my first interview. This interview It was brief, efficient, but also substantive. The 10-15 interviewee's were given a high quality presentation by the Owner/Manager of the Oklahoma City branch. He made a solid and practiced pitch, going into detail regarding the sales and commission based aspects of the job, as well as the philanthropic work of the company. Specifically, the help the office provided to the striking Oklahoma teachers. I've been through several of these presentations and this was the least excruciating by far. In fact it was informative and well thought out. I was able to speak 1 on 1 with the Owner/Manager afterwards. We were not able to come to terms but he promised to call me later that evening and revisit the issue. He was good to his word and called 5-6 hours later. We still could not find and arrangement that would make sense for both of us and mutually decided not to move forward. However, it was a positive experience overall.
I've read several complaints about this company, most along the lines of a "bait and switch" as sales is not directly referenced in job description initially provided by the recruiter. I disagree that this is any sort of 'bait and switch', as five minutes of preliminary research makes it very clear that this position is sales and commission based. I'd speculate that some of the candidates posting negative reviews likely failed to do even the most cursory research before arriving for the interview. If an applicant can't be bothered to conduct basic research on the front end, then to me, their negative reviews on the back end carry somewhat less weight.
