      Program Coordinator Interview

      Sep 18, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at American University in Jul 2011

      Interview

I was referred by an current employee. I was first interviewed by that employee, then by that employee and the supervisor, and then by the supervisor alone. We spoke at length about the challenges of the job, how my background would aide me in performing the duties, how I was uniquely suited, and what my plan was long term. I was contacted 2 days after the final interview with an offer.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Being asked long term plans is tricky for a 20-something. It is difficult to plan 5 years down the road, especially if a job isn't exactly on the career path you expected. In our current economic climate, many people are settling rather than pursuing their dream positions. Luckily this position was in line with my plans--and I had a response ready.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at American University in May 2023

      Interview

Round one- Self interview. Answered 10 questions via audio recording. Fairly straight forward questions. Round two- 3 hour interview with multiple departments. Same questions repeated for each session/department. Wondered if we could not just record the interview and then have other stakeholders review the info later. Very tedious.

      Question 1

Q: How would you handle policies that you don't agree with?

      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at American University in Oct 2012

      Interview

The interview process moves very quickly. After submitting my resume and cover letter I was invited by email to come in the next afternoon. The office culture is intimate, and I chatted with several work-study associates while I waited. One of my interviewers was very late, due to another University function. At all times, everyone put me at ease, to get a glimpse of my real personality and not just what was in my coverletter. There was a good balance of leading questions, and the interviewers sharing how the program works. I felt good about the interview because I got the whole room laughing.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

You should expect foreign language skills to be tested on the spot! DC is very international, and the diverse staff at AU reflects this.
