Strategic Planning and Operations Associate Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Amgen (Thousand Oaks, CA) in Apr 2019

      Interview

I applied for the role at the end of January and received an email to schedule call a phone interview in early March. I scheduled the phone interview for following week. The hiring manager was kindly and spoke enthusiastically about the role. The called about 30 mins or so. I was told I would hear back about the role the week after the interview. I followed up (a little after mid-March) when I didn't receive a response within the time line stated. I was told the HRBP was out of the office for a while. I received a call at the end of March to schedule a time to come in for early April. The interview consisted of a panel with the hiring manager, an executives two other adjacent roles for two hours. The environment was nice - a glass paneled small conference room - and I was made to feel welcome. I ran over by about 15 minutes, due to my questions. I left feeling positive and upbeat about the experience. I was told I would hear back in a few days’ time (though I did think this was overly optimistic timing, especially given early estimations). If a decision was not made, however, candidates would be notified by email of a revised date. I followed up the next day with personalized thank you emails to all panel members and asked a question of the hiring manager in the post script of his email. I received a response the night of eight days later. It was from the automated system (Workday) that they had moved on to another candidate. I thought this was in poor taste as there was no response to my follow-up question, no notification of a revised timeline and an impersonal rejection email, especially given the prolonged interview process.
