I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Appen (Hazard, KY) in Nov 2017
Interview
The interview process was lengthy but not impossible. It took 19 days from the time I interviewed until the time I was hired. First I completed a pre-screening to find out my knowledge of basic concepts regarding search relevance and web evaluation. I am unsure how long this took but I think it was around 20 minutes. After that once all of my paperwork was completed and returned I took a qualifications exam. The exam takes a long time to complete. It took me approximately 7 hours to finish. But it doesn't have to be completed all at once. Once the exam was finished I waited for the results. 3 days later I began production on the project I am assigned to.

Question 1
The qualifications exam was difficult because it took so long to complete.
There wasn't an interview process. You just fill out an application and hope it actually works since you can't get hold of anyone if it doesn't. Had success before but not this time around.

You do not get to speak to someone you simply have to do assessments and and further tests to describe your personality. Also a lot of NDA's are required to be signed before you begin.
