I was asked to come in and interview for 4 separate rounds. The interview process was very intense as the company uses the "top grading" method. They ask a lot of competency questions as well as probe very deeply into your personal and work history. You sit with many people and sometimes interview with multiple interviewers at one time.
I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Argo Group
Interview
I did a phone screening with the Director of Product/Hiring Manager and was asked to go on the onsite. I was EXTREMELY excited after speaking with the Hiring Manager on the call. My skills seemed to translate exactly to what they were looking for and I felt great rapport with the Hiring Manager as my potential manager given our similar experience in entrepreneurship. Unfortunately, meeting him in person was totally changed my opinion as he asked a product case study where he was clearly not paying attention or intentionally ignoring what we were agreeing to as premises for the case study. This made it extremely difficult to communicate as this happened multiple times throughout the interview. When I asked him about the background and trajectory of product at the company and his role, I was very surprised by his answer as it was clear he, himself was an inexperienced product manager. I actually quite enjoyed my interview with the engineer and designer and felt that I would have worked phenomenally well with them. But my interview with a Product Owner on their team was equally as disturb. He was arrogant and unfriendly - in fact I thought he was being intentionally difficult (which I would have been fine with), but like the Hiring Manager, he seemed to listen to only certain parts of what I was saying and interpreting it in ways that I had explicitly said was NOT what I meant. This was probably one of the worst interview experiences I've had where the product org is not only inexperienced but also highly conceited.
