      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Argo Group (Chicago, IL) in Jun 2021

      Interview

Recruiter phone screen after getting an email saying they were interested in my application (she was awesome, by the way) 30 minutes Phone screen led to a one on one Teams video interview with the hiring manager who would be the direct report for the position. (30 minutes) After the one on one there was a 4 person panel including the hiring manager over Teams video (45 minutes) Everyone was friendly and professional. I thought I would see the 4th stage which would be an in person meeting with the hiring manager, but it wasn't meant to be.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Argo Group (Chicago, IL) in Jun 2021

      Interview

Process took one week. First contact with recruiter via 30 minute telephone interview. Was told process would take six weeks until start. Second Microsoft Team call a week later with the hiring manager. Our call took 50 minutes. Received call from recruiter two days later that I was hiring manager felt I was overqualified (can anyone really be overqualified?!) and I was abrasive in my communication. No example was given. Understandably I was upset and the recruiter told me not to be sad, if it was meant to be it would be. It seemed a bit condescending to me. I have been interviewing for more years than I care to say and never, ever have I been abrasive, only positive and enthusiastic. I never bad mouth previous colleagues or employers because I always find the good in everyone. I felt hurt, insulted and sad. Then the next day, I receive a very friendly and kind email from the hiring manager, thanking me for my thank you note and the link to a webinar on a topic we discussed. I was stunned. Did he not know what I was told the previous day? Did the recruiter make a mistake? I reached out to the hiring manager, asking for 10 minutes of his time. No response from him but I received a phone call from the recruiter that she would handle any questions I had. I didn't have a question, I wanted to apologize that he felt my communication was abrasive. I didn't need someone telling him that for me. I ended up responding to his email, explaining why I wanted to talk to him. I thanked him again for his time and he didn't need to respond. Sometimes just an email telling someone they aren't moving forward is enough. If I want more information, I'll ask. All you did was undermine my confidence.
