      Senior Product Manager Interview

      Apr 3, 2022

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at AskNicely (Auckland, Auckland) in Nov 2021

      Interview

Three interviews in one week with verbal offer. Recruiter did initial screening and scene setting, and set up first interview with hiring manager. 1st Interview gave me a great feel for the place just based on great contextual and framework questions asked. 2nd interview was again with hiring manager and VP Product. Again got a great feel for the work culture which is so important. Also a good vibe for their openness for innovation and customer centricity (as opposed to bottom line). Product-led and driven strategy also. VP of Product was also a super fab person to be interviewed with with passion. First two interviews were very relaxed in setting, mainly as they were both so easy to talk to and open to questions. Lots of questions asked about my experience in depth and how I manage certain situations. I came away thinking, 'Yup - I'd like to work in their team!' Final interview was with Aaron Ward. This is far from a box ticking exercise and luckily the 90 minutes allocated to this was a pretty big clue. It was a very interesting discussion and he had many questions and I was able to ask him some also. So became a great chat. He was interested in my background and delving into experience questions. It's clear to realise that at AskNicely its so essential that every new person joining is the right balance of Nice to fit with the existing small team. Aaron is based in Portland and it was only after that final interview, I realised that he'd given up time on his thanksgiving holiday to spend interviewing me. So this says a lot for a CEO and founder to dedicate that personal time to finding the right people! Friday received a verbal offer only 24h after the above. So a super speedy turn around of only a week from start to finish.
