      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      May 6, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Mateo, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Asurion (San Mateo, CA) in Apr 2017

      Interview

A HR from Asurion from Nashville, TN pinged me on linkedIn and i started talking to him about the logistics and he scheduled a telephonic interview in a few days. There were a couple of quirks with scheduling and the HR calling me. I had to give a few time slots that works for me and the HR picked something and never sent any mail and called randomly when i was out for a run. Failure #1 Although i was agitated, i tried to be nice spoke to him and i gave him time slots for the upcoming phone screen. A few days went by and someone sends me a meeting request at a wrong time. I still wanted to be professional and not rant about how unprofessional they are scheduling in a slot that wasn't in the slots that i gave them. Failure #2. The technical screen went well till the coding exercise started. A few things that lead to Failure #3 is when the interviewer started plugging random code while i was coding. Either ways, the coding exercises went pretty well and i was able to answer pretty much all the questions. I did not go out of the way to answer more than what was asked as i realized the interviewer was pretty naive and did not know much about what was being asked. I haven't heard back from anyone since then. Honestly, i care a damn. Who wants to work for a company who are this unprofessional. Software Industry is not all about being cool, its about being professional and respect everyone's time and effort. The only reason i am taking 20 minutes of time to write this review is for people to understand what they are signing up for. Simple things first, when an interviewer feels intimidated by the type of answers that the interviewee is giving and worries about his position in the company is the worst thing that can happen to a company. You probably need to change your panel and have smart people to interview smarter people i guess. No hard feelings, i wouldn't have either ways taken this job even if i had got it as it was more like a practice test for me for something big.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Pretty much everything that i had on my resume and a coding exercise which was so simple that a junior in college might be able to answer it.

      Interview

I was sent straight to the team lead. First round interview. Simple behavioral questions to start.Pretty basic questions such as outline your strengths and weakness. Talk about a recent project. Then pretty straight forward questions about my experiences with Node js. Some questions hard to answer because I didn't have the experience. They were looking for someone who had done work with form submissions and document saving.
