I was contacted for this role by recruiters. The entire process from recruiter cold call to final offer took just under four weeks.
From my first contact with the recruiting team in Nashville to my follow-up conversations with the recruiter in San Mateo, I was impressed with the level of investment in my future with the company and their sincere interest in adding me to the team. Everything was made extremely clear to me, from expectations and job duties to how differences in my background and the on-the-job duties would require additional training to best fill the role. Recruiters were extremely responsive and helpful at every stage of the process, right through final offer and onboarding. Whenever I had a question, my contact in San Mateo was right there to get me what I needed 24/7.
The process was fairly standard, with recruiter phone screens followed by a video call with the hiring manager and an on-site with designers, developers, and product managers. The on-site consisted of a portfolio review, a whiteboard design session with a case study given to me prior to the interview, and several one-on-ones and small group meetings.
Throughout, I never once felt anything but a sincere team desire to bring me into the organization, get me up to speed, and get me participating in the extremely flexible and democratic agile processes characteristic of Asurion. I was offered valuable feedback after being on the hot seat for the design thinking exercise, which was professionally valuable and supportive. I left the office extremely impressed with the culture and talent at the San Mateo office.
A verbal offer was extended while commuting home from the interview, which put me at ease and ensured that I could enjoy my weekend without fretting over the outcome. The final offer came in early the next week, which I accepted. It is worth mentioning that I was interviewed for a senior role and ended up accepting a junior role. This was a blessing, as my design background was rooted in other industries and the “Sr.” title could have been a liability when transitioning into this role, especially in terms of workplace politics and hierarchy. All of this was avoided with a little humility on my end and a bit of foresight by the hiring manager.
Onboarding was routine prior to the start date, and my contacts at the Nashville office were professional, friendly, and responsive throughout. I truly enjoyed many of my professional interactions with the recruiters and HR onboarding concierge and I can’t speak highly enough of my recruiter in San Mateo, who was awesome!
