I don't generally leave reviews for interviews but I felt it was necessary to describe my experience. I was initially contacted by a recruiter about this job, and even though I didn't apply for it I was interested as it aligned very closely with my previous experience, and I had been looking to move into a job that would provide new challenges. The initial phone interview was simple and straightforward they asked about my experience as it relates to the role and some HR style questions ie biggest strengths and weaknesses that type of thing. However the next interview with the direct manager for this role was very bizarre to say the least. Some of the questions were unrelated to the actual job and the interviewer seemed to only be listening to every other thing I said. For instance I explained that in previous roles I was responsible for manually downloading data into an Excel spreadsheet organizing it and manually filing sales & use tax returns for many different states, but in my current role it was more automated and I needed to just monitor the process for errors. Then at the end they gave me some feedback and said that the role I was interviewing for would require significant manual work with spreadsheets to file the returns so it wouldn't be the same as how I am doing it now which might be a potential issue. It was clear that they missed my entire explanation of my previous experience and how I was doing exactly what they were describing. There was also a point where I looked away from the camera as I was thinking of my response and they scolded me and told me to look at the camera. Overall it was weird and awkward, and I decided to remove myself from consideration immediately after the call. It was a great learning experience that helped me understand that you are interviewing your future boss/company as much as they are interviewing you for the role.
