      Lead Product Designer Interview

      Jan 15, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Atlassian

      Interview

First recruiter screen: Canceled by recruiter 10 minutes prior Second recruiter screen: Recruiter no-showed, only to follow-up later explaining that an internal meeting had gone long Scheduling the Hiring Manager screen: Asked to confirm dates and times that didn’t exist, causing confusion and leaving me partly accountable for coordination Hiring Manager interview: Pleasant enough, however I got the sense that the interviewer was checking off a list of questions and taking notes rather than listening - an assumption that was further reinforced by the fact that there were no follow-ups to any of my answers, rendering a non-conversational experience. I was also a little thrown off by what was a seemingly a lack of discipline expertise. Hiring Manager Feedback: The recruiter provided raw feedback, which is always appreciated, but the feedback was so far off (read: not related to my work or experience) i first thought it was a misfire meant for someone else. I ran it by a couple Atlassian employees (peers and previous colleagues), who were equally confused by the gross mischaracterization of my experience and work. Recruiter clarification: I requested clarification on the feedback, so I might be able to tailor future conversations appropriately. I never received a response. Summary: From all of this, I can only infer that due to the current talent and supply disequilibrium, Atlassian is panic scaling. I do feel and hope my experience was anomalous. None the less, it was a huge disappointment from company that I greatly admire. Slow down, manage your growth with diligence, and practice what you preach.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Atlassian in Oct 2024

      Interview

From the start, the recruiter I worked with so respectful and very communicative every step of the interview process. I ended up making it to the third round and was not asked to come back for the last round, but I thought everyone I spoke to on the team was very kind, low-ego, and respectful of my time and effort during the whole process. I'm super bummed that I ended up not getting the role, but I had such a positive interview experience. Atlassian is doing it right, which is great, especially in this tumultuous job market.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Atlassian (Amsterdam) in Feb 2023

      Interview

In my opinion, there were too many steps with unclear expectations toward a candidate. The interviewing team was not diverse, had less experience than the candidate, and didn't pay attention to the story. Spoke with the recruiters 3 times, then the hiring manager. Got rejected after Portfolio Deep Dive for reasons that didn't match the interview experience and materials presented. I had a feeling that the decision was based on bias.
