I recently interviewed for the Director Total Rewards position at Avanos and wanted to share my overall experience, which unfortunately left much to be desired. The initial interview with the recruiter went well, and I appreciated her efficiency in providing me with the midpoint of the salary range during our first conversation. It set clear expectations and demonstrated a commitment to respecting everyone's time. However, the subsequent interview process was highly disorganized and inconsiderate of candidates' schedules. Contrary to the initially outlined process of meeting with the CHRO, two team members, and the CFO, the actual sequence involved virtual and in-office meetings with the CHRO, two additional team members, and two separate meetings with the CFO. The most frustrating aspect was the lack of communication and apparent inefficiency. I communicated to the recruiter that I had another offer and needed a timely response. Despite this, she scheduled what was supposed to be my final meeting with the CFO but failed to follow up until a full 1.5 weeks after my other offer had expired. This delay, coupled with the subsequent lack of clarity in the communication, showcased a concerning level of incompetence. To make matters worse, after informing the recruiter that I did not accept the other offer, she called me a week later and asked about my salary expectations again. This was perplexing, as I had already provided this information during our initial conversation. Her statement in the final exchange about my salary expectations being too high was confusing and contradictory to our earlier discussions. Furthermore, she promised to provide details of the offer either the same night or the following morning but failed to deliver, leaving me hanging without any updates. After waiting for an additional week with no response, I decided to withdraw from the process. It's disheartening to learn that Avanos is now resorting to hiring a recruiting firm for the same position. This experience has left me questioning the company's professionalism and ability to manage the hiring process effectively. In conclusion, the lack of organization, communication delays, and apparent inefficiency in Avanos' hiring process have been a source of frustration. I hope this feedback serves as constructive criticism for improving the candidate experience in the future.
