The initial screening interview was the worst I have ever experienced. When asked, I have compared it to a robocaller. The recruiter stuck entirely to a script, even when I tried to be conversational. I would provide an extended answer to one question, she would then ask the next question despite the extension just having answered it. I did not feel she actually heard what I was saying, just that she was typing it.
Another opportunity for growth that I’d like to point out is when you are typing notes during an interview, do not set your phone down next to your keyboard. When I would start speaking, loud typing noises would follow. So loud that I initially lost thought, paused, and had to then commit to a system of turning my phone volume all the way down then quickly turning it all the way back up when I was complete. This was a fragmented, disruptive, and ultimately not a natural feeling interview.
I had a couple of questions at the end, but the recruiter was unable to answer them. This was to be expected, as I am aware she does not work in that department. However, more collaboration with the teams she is hiring for may help her in answering some basics about the department rather than just working off of the posted Job Description.
My interview was very recent, so I have not yet received a reply regarding this role. I wanted to relay the initial screening experience.
