I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at BLICK Art Materials (Boston, MA)
Interview
The interview was weird. One of the staff members was walking me to the back of the store and told me not to be afraid of the hiring manager because "She's just like that." The manager also brought me into Panera's (next door) for an interview.....which was loud and uncomfortable. After the interview she told me to email her a week later. I did; no response for a few days. I called twice and left a message over the next few days and just never heard back. I also drove more than 2 hours for the interview and she knew that (don't live in Boston in the summer). I thought it was very inconsiderate that she couldn't take the time to write a sentence via email telling me I didn't get the job. It's not that she's slow at replying to emails, because when we were emailing each other before my interview she responded almost the day of or the day after. I was honestly baffled because I had 2 years of experience working in another art store known for its astounding customer service, am a major in the fine arts, and have a clean record save for a speeding ticket. Who knows.

Question 1
None really. It's only super difficult if you don't have any background in art.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at BLICK Art Materials (Hollywood, Los Angeles) in Nov 2024
Interview
3 INTERVIEWS AND A 3 WEEK PROCESS FOR A RETAIL JOB AND I GOT REJECTED FOR NO REASON. I went to art school!!! I have worked retail before!! I submitted an application online that featured a few open-ended questions. That week I received a phone call from one of the managers and went through the process of a phone interview, which went really really well. I was called in for an in-person interview with a different manager the next week. After not hearing back for 2 weeks with no update, I checked in on the status of my application and was told the other manager was on vacation. I was then called in for A THIRD interview with the third manager, which again, I thought went well. 3 interviews for a seasonal retail job is absolutely bonkers. I received a default one-sentence rejection after 3 weeks interviewing.

Interview
A casual and relaxing interview process with management. Management made me feel comfortable but also asked good questions that gauged my experience with customer service, handling cash, and art supply knowledge.

A specific question was how comfortable I am with knowledge of different art supply mediums, their ingredients, their uses.
I interviewed at BLICK Art Materials (Detroit, MI)
Interview
Fairly simple/normal corporate interview. Talked about job history and why you would make a good fit. The only difference is they had looked into my artwork pre-interview and asked me why my knowledge of the field would benefit their location.

Question 1
What artistic medium do you work in most and what knowledge/experience do you have in those supplies that would aid you in helping an artist who was trying to problem solve a project
