I have been to many interviews for many companies. I've worked for British Airways and Rolls Royce. I understand both the purpose of the interview process and the psychology behind it. So it is without question that I can name BT as the worst company who has ever interviewed me.
Firstly you should understand that it was a two on one panel interview for an Apprenticeship position, after I was greeted, I was quickly chastised for arriving too early. "Why did you arrive so early?" I told them because it was an important interview and I always arrive early, they both gave me the evil eye, "death stare", and moved on to their next question: "Why have you worn such a nice suit, do you believe that wearing a nice suit will get you the job?".
Right now I have been sitting in their office, (a tiny, dirty room), for only a minute, and already I feel that the interview has taken a bizarre and sinister trajectory. I look at the overweight men in the ill fitting suits and wonder if this is for real. I can barely hear them over the din of the portable air conditioner they have going at full pelt in a room the size of a toilet cubicle. I tell them that I take pride in my suit and my time keeping, and we move on to the interview questions.
They had dozens of questions they had to ask me, and every single one of them was read from a sheet, in a monotone voice, by a man who clearly had no desire to take the interview seriously given that I already owned a nicer suit than him and was already able to arrive at his office before he could.
Most of my answers he did not even bother to write down on his sheet. And neither man did or said anything that wasn't printed on that sheet. They were a pair of useless robots and I made them both look ridiculous, I made a mockery of their questions and their tick box mentally, and I never got the job (LUCKILY). Because then I would move on to work for Rolls Royce, who don't play silly games.
