I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at BWX Technologies (Lynchburg, VA) in Oct 2022
Interview
Basic phone interview with the hiring manager and lead engineer. Asked questions about what I liked and disliked in my current role and why I want to join their team, etc. No technical questions really since my resume outlined the same responsibilities that the open role would have. They said on the spot that they wanted to make me an offer. However, when I got the offer, it was 15% below what I had put in my application for salary expectations. When I called HR to try to negotiate the offer, they did not budge one dime. Not on PTO policy, not on 401k, not remote work, not bonus, not salary, NOTHING. Honestly a waste of my time when they knew they weren’t going to get me for a cheap price. Their loss since they said they’d been looking to fill this role for months and really needed someone to start asap. Lesson learned: if they’re not willing to work with you before you accept the job, they won’t work with you after you take the job.
Positive experience overall. The interview included a mix of technical and behavioural questions relevant to the role. For a co-op position, the questions were fair and focused on problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
