I found this veterinary assistant position opening on Indeed. I applied through a website called Taleo. About 2.5 weeks later I received an email from the practice manager to set up an interview. The interview was held in one of their exam rooms. It was easy and laidback. The manager was very friendly. After the interview, she gave me a small tour of the back of the hospital. She brought me to the front and said I would hear back from her within the next few days. I got a call back asking if I’d be interested in an observation shift to meet the team and see how I like the hospital. She told me to dress business casual. I came in a couple days later, introduced myself to a CSR and she took me to the back. Everyone was friendly and introduced themselves. I observed for about 3.5 hours simply because I enjoyed observing. You’re not allowed to touch anything due to liability. I got to witness dentals, blood draws, injections, exams and a surgery. I asked a lot of questions regarding the company, a typical day as an employee at Banfield, procedures, what employees were doing with certain equipment, etc. While observing, the manager asked me to meet her in an exam room. She told me the staff liked me and offered me the position. I accepted and she emailed a background check. It takes 1-2 weeks to process, so I’m currently waiting to get a call back to schedule a start date.
