I would like to preface by saying that I think my experience was heavily impacted due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but I think Bath & Body Works dropped the ball this past year with their hiring process.
I interviewed for a merchant internship in 2019 and after one phone interview and an extensive in-person interview at the headquarters in Columbus, I received a position. However, due to the pandemic, they cancelled the internship. Throughout the summer, I remained in-touch with all my recruiters and attempted to do everything possible to set myself up for success for the Merchant In Training Program. As a summer intern, I and the other nine interns were automatically considered for the MIT program. However, in addition to all the summer interns, BBW brought in 20 other candidates to also be considered for the MIT program. The interview day was entirely on zoom and consisted of three interviews and a group project with other candidates. In one interview, you are asked to present a "customer project" in which you analyze the brand and offer suggestions and recommendations. It was the exact same project from my interview the year prior which, I think, was not an advantage. For the group project, you were presented with a case and numerous questions that were not about BBW, but rather just general business operations and plans. No one in my group project was extended an offer. Despite the large pool of candidates, they only extend 4 or 5 spots. I understand the competitive nature of this program, but as a summer intern who didn't ever get the opportunity to intern, the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth.
Finally, I heard back about a week later, and the only feedback that I was given was that I should let others share their ideas during the group project. While this feedback was understandable, it was an eight hour interview day and that was the only area of feedback. I did send a few follow-up emails to my recruiters asking for additional feedback and the opportunity to discuss any other positions that could be a better fit, but I never heard back.
BBW certainly treats their candidates well during the interview process, and I was thrilled at the thought of interning with them last summer, but I don't think I would ever try to work for them again after this last experience.
