I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Bazaarvoice (Belfast, Northern Ireland) in Nov 2019
Interview
After application, had call with HR followed by another call with the QA team lead. All good so far.
Was asked to complete a technical challenge however the challenge given appeared to be aimed at a application developer role and did not test any of the skills or technologies listed on the job description. Completed to the best of my ability but felt it wasn’t a very fair test as a Test Automation Developer would never be asked to produce algorithms of the type found in the test. Also at no point in the test was “quality” mentioned - surely a QA engineer would be asked about how close should be tested or how a complex test automation framework should be constructed. Also the practice scenarios were completely different to those in the actual test.
Followed up with an email saying I wished to discuss the content of the test. Was told another call would be arranged and I shared a list of times and dates that worked for me.
Three weeks later I am still waiting on a response. I have chased twice. Like many other reviews on here, I appear to have been ghosted by HR!
Very unprofessional process and I was since told by a recruiter that this is a recurring problem with the Belfast BV team.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
In a language of your choice, construct and validate an API request to the endpoint provided and process the response.
Followed by blank method skeleton for candidate to enter response. Note that the interface does not have intellisense so code must fully recalled from memory.
String encoding problem. Strings are encoded by how many of each letter they have. E.g. AABCDA = A3B1C1D1. Some have been encoded incorrectly such as AABCDA = A2B1C1D1A1. Complete the method below (which accepts a list of strings as a param) to correct any errors. If no errors are present in the input encoded string then the output should be the same as the original input.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback – I am sorry your experience has not been a positive one. Across all of our offices, we have a large volume of candidates and we work to ensure the communication between the candidate and the team is as smooth as possible. We did not live up to our own high standards which we will address internally and ensure it does not happen again. In regards to the test, this was already under review and we are indeed adjusting our process to better fit the requirements of the role and Bazaarvoice as a whole. Thank you again for the feedback, insights like this are very helpful as we work to improve our process across the board.
