I had an initial phone interview with the area manager who was very pleasant. She asked me basic questions about my knowledge of Benefit and the products and how I would describe myself. I then went for a one to one interview with her. The questions were more competency based and once again she was very nice to talk to. Then later the same day I had a shop floor trial. This was on a Wednesday afternoon in a department store, the shop was not busy at all. There were five of us being interviewed at the same time and we had to traffic stop potential customers and get them to sit down and do our best to sell them something and apply the make up for them. Before we started the area manager went over the basic with us, some info about the products and where we could find make up brushes, tissues etc. Then we had around an hour and a half to sit down as many people as possible. It was really difficult because the majority of customers in the shop at this time were elderly and not really Benefits typical customer, there were so many of us traffic stopping that customers were being asked twice which is irritating, with us and the actual Benefit staff and any customers the counter was very crowded, it was difficult to traffic stop without getting too close to other counters and poaching their customers, because there was five of us I didn't feel like the area manager even got a chance to see me because every time I had a customer she was off watching someone else, when we actually did get someone to sit down we were still completely unaware of how to answer the customer's questions and really our attempts at applying the product can't have been that great because we barely knew what we were doing! I did not get the job and I must say I left with no desire to join the company. There were just too many interviewees at one time for that day! And I think it is rather a lot to ask to give a full make over to a customer with products you haven't tried yourself before. I own quite a few Benefit products but that doesn't mean I know the ins and outs and could actually sell them. It was just too much, maybe a similar idea but on a smaller scale would have worked.
