      Sales Associate Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Best Buy (Signal Hill, CA) in Oct 2012

      Interview

I applied online on September 3rd and got a call back for the first interview a month later on October 4th. Don't lose hope if they don't call you back within the first two days! It would be even better to follow up after your apply. Anyways, I was in class when they called me so they left a voicemail. I called back and was scheduled for an interview the next day at 1:45pm. I arrived at the Best Buy and not knowing where to go, I asked the first associate I could find and they directed me to a huge line of people. I figured it was because it's seasonal hiring time. A woman gave me a clipboard and asked me to fill in the blanks (availability, phone number, basically questions you already answered online). The first interview (I wasn't given a phone interview) was a group interview with three other interviewees and two interviewers (both managers of two different departments). They ask you simple questions like "Why Best Buy?", "What department would you want to work in", and the REALLY big question is about stealing. Just say it's totally unacceptable and that you will report it to a supervisor or manager immediately yada yada. I was the only one in my group who brought a resume, so I suggest you bring one just in case/turn it in anyways. When the first interview was over, someone in my group asked how long we should expect to wait for a call for a second interview and one of the managers said 3-4 days. I went home and 2 hours later I received a call from Best Buy and they asked if I could come in in 20 minutes for the second interview. Luckily, I lived down the street so I made 10 minutes after I received the call. This second interview was with a different manager from a different department. This is where all the unexpected questions come in. They were all "Tell me a situation where..." and there were literally PAGES of these questions, and she took notes on everything I said, which made me pretty nervous. This was my FIRST interview so I've never answered these type of questions before. Luckily I was involved in a lot of activities in high school so I just made stories up about those (well, some of them were true haha). If you've never had a job before, just make up something that you did in high school! I used examples in my volunteer experience, being a dance team captain, being a student director for a school show, etc. I don't really care how pretentious this sounds but the manager really loved me! She told me that I should expect a call next week for my third interview because the General Manager was out of town for a meeting. The next Thursday (exactly a week), I have yet to receive a call. I decided to follow-up and see what was going on and they told me to call back because the lady who schedules interview appointments was out for lunch. I called back in about an hour, and they told me the same story: the GM is out of town. I suspected that they were just lying and were just trying to get rid of me--then I received a phone call 20 minutes regarding the third interview! The third interview is basically a review questionnaire of things you've already previously answered. At the end of the interview, I received a job offer. He gave me lots of paperwork and told me I had to get a drug test. I just took it today, and am now awaiting for the phone call for orientation!

      Interview

Recorded interview: asked basic about me overview question, why best buy, and a few scenario question touching on customer privacy and respect. Overall very smooth, did not get a call back due to locations

      Question 1

They always tend to start with the "tell me about yourself" where you essentially pitch yourself in 90 seconds or less.

      Interview

Star method questions. Depending on the location they each have a very different interview process. The first two were more lengthy and expected you to do a demonstration or convincing them to buy something whereas my third interview at a different location was very laid back.

Why Bestbuy and can you tell me about your last experience.

It was not too long and was a good process. They asked me about eight questions so that was not bad at all. Just make sure you act professionally and be positive throughout the process is what’s most important of all.
