After applying on line, I received an e-mail that stated the non-negotiable salary, included a full job description, and asked me to reply via e-mail with my answers to the following questions: 1. What do you know about BBB? 2. Why do you want to work for BBB? 3. Explain a situation in which you used analytical skills to think outside the box and solve a problem for a customer. 4. What would you do if you were on your way to work and you got a flat tire? Several days after my reply, I received a phone call from the hiring manager who conducted a brief phone interview. I was asked to explain why I wanted to work at the BBB and to tell a little bit about myself. At the end of the phone call, I was invited for an in-person interview the following week. The in-person interview was conducted by a panel of two managers (the hiring department manager and a neighboring department manager) who took turns asking from a predetermined list of questions including: Why do you want to work at the BBB? What did you like and dislike most about your last job, and why? Why did you leave your last job? If you received a major award in the next 5 years, what would the title be? What are your career goals? Tell us about a time when you creatively solved a problem How do you deal with an unfamiliar situation? Describe yourself in 3 words or less. How do you feel about multi-tasking? This job involves a lot of reading and strict following of specific procedures and rules, how do feel about that? They explained the specific hours of the job, and asked if there were any commitments or concerns that might interfere with my abilty to work reliably. They explained a little about the benefits they offer (PTO, Holidays, Insurance, Tuition re-imbursement, etc.) and seemed proud of all they had to offer. They asked me if I had any questions for them. They explained that they had many people to interview, but that all candidates would hear back from them via e-mail or telephone. They did not plan on conducting 2nd interviews and said that they had the power to make hiring decisions without any input from above them. They were very warm and friendly, and tried to make me feel at eas in their impressive conference room - which included the most comfortable over-sized office chairs I've ever tried! They even gave me bottled water as I came in. The interviewers seemed to have on very cheerful poker faces, smiled a lot, and said "Thank you" after each of my replies.
