I was contacted by a recruiter for a contract coaching position. Had to complete extensive paperwork and go through several hours (approx 8-10) of training videos and exercises. Next, there's a mock coaching session to complete based on a 2nd coaching session with a member.
BetterUp does not provide any feedback or constructive criticism after the mock session. You are supposed to have 20 minutes to complete, however my interviewer spent 10 minutes of our time chatting about herself and her background. I had very little time to practice any coaching skills.
Throughout the process, I emailed support a couple of times to ask some clarifying questions and was given incorrect information. For instance, I was sent the wrong mock client information and session format, and when I asked if I was being moved forward, I was congratulated and told yes, I was. Then a few days later, I was told to disregard the information for the mock session. Next, I was told I wasn’t being moved forward and to disregard the previous email. It was disorganized and confusing.
They seem to be doing meaningful work. Hopefully they'll improve their hiring process.
Without speaking to a human, I was advanced to a digital training - which I completed, given a betterup email, signed a contract...then it was never countersigned and I never heard back. Never a human voice involved in the whole process.
This is about a lack of an interview that is mind boggling. After waiting for a response to an application for quite a while, virtual initial screenings and a complete training, and being provided a business email, and going through docusign...I never spoke to an actual person. One year later, still no word, no actual interview, no word on next steps. Very confusing.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at BetterUp (New York, NY) in Jun 2023
Interview
There was no human interaction in the entire interview process until the test coaching session. There was a lot of unpaid learning required (a small stipend was provided although it hasn't been paid out yet). The learning materials were interesting but I was quite unsure whether this was a real gig.
