FYI Lowlights :
I applied early 12/2021; salary range topped at $125k according to hiring manager - I've since seen it re-posted with a top salary of $70k (yikes re: role responsibilities)
Interviews were redundant, process was chaotic.
Learned in interviews: biggest sources of leads are purchasing lists from 3rd party vendors and gated content. No processes in place for handling leads at any stage - 2 big marketing red flags
Think long and hard before taking a marketing role with this company
Hooo boy, this was a rollercoaster
Length: 6 weeks
Interviews: 6 or 7 interviews; incl HR screen
Cadence:
1. HR Interview
2. Dir Customer & Field Marketing – Hiring Mgr.
3. Dir Content Marketing & SEO
-told interview 4 would be final stage
4. Interim Head of Marketing (Also Head of Design)
-informed “sorry, my mistake there are more interviews”
5. VP Enterprise & Partnerships
- 1 week passes -HR emails " no longer being considered" no reason given
-Hiring manager calls emails; mistake made still being considered
6. 1.5hr discussion/interview call with Dir Field Marketing/ Hir Mngr
7. COO
After 5th interview and 1st notice I was no longer being considered I email hiring manager for feedback on my interview or background; any shortfalls etc
-Hiring Mgr. emails and texts within the hour that HR made a mistake and they had NOT moved on and asked for a call with them later that night
-5:30pm same night- 1.5hr+ "Discussion/Interview" on what I should expect in the role, talked processes I can institute to better gain and track/map leads, they explained to me other needs and next steps needed to be taken by this role as if I was already in the job. Spoke comp and benefits, my upcoming planned vacation - given the idea that I had the role all sewn up and to expect an offer.
8:30pm that night, Hiring Manager calls again and says they need to schedule 1 more interview; I forget who they said it would be with, know it didn’t end up being with that person
Next day; HR email exchange scheduling interview I ask if THIS is the last step in the process - they say there could be an additional "culture fit" interview afterwards but she was unsure.
Interview 7 COO - very general questions; seemed uninterested; body language and demeanor indicated he was working throughout the interview
1 week later HR email "the team has decided to look for someone with more experience in events with an SaaS company."
2 months after original job posting and 2x separately being told I’m a finalist for the role - they've changed the profile of the candidate they're looking for...hmm
I'm not disappointed in a lack of offer, I think I dodged a bullet after looking back on it. I am however slightly miffed about them wasting my time through Xmas and New year's when they weren't even set on the candidate profile.
