      Interview

I applied online and got a phone interview several days later. Asked some basic C++ problems, for example virtual functions, const member functions, etc. Then wrote two algorithms, 1) insert a number into an array, 2) find out the missing number in 1 - 1,000,000. Now I'm waiting for the result of phone interview.

No whiteboard prepared, only writing on the paper. The interviewer is very kind and when I need clue they gave some clue to me. The second round interviewer is an India guy, didn't ask me for algorithm just talk. Even though I get rejected but I think this experience is not bad.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Bloomberg in Jan 2015

      Interview

1 Phone interview followed by onsite interview. I applied online and got email to schedule a phone interview. The interviewer was very friendly and the interview went pretty good. I got email for in-house interview. The in-house interview was a bit different then the phone one. I had two technical 2:1 interviews and after that I was told that I am done for the say. So I guess their process is, if you survive the technical interview, only then you get to see the hiring manager. The first round of technical interview went ok. I believed I made every effort to give the correct answer. I am not sure whether the interviewers were convinced or not. One of the interviewer kept asking questions and the other one was constantly looking at me. I am not sure what made them reject me, my answers to the technical questions or my answers to the behavioral questions. The second round was a bit rough on me. One of the interviewer was speaking too fast. She was speaking so fast that it was really hard for me to understand what she was asking. It took me a while to understand the overall problem. I believe they were not convinced and found me too slow.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Your background does not look like a computer science background, even if my undergrad was computer science and graduate school was computational sciences. It was tough for me to convince the interviewer that computational sciences is actually use of computer science resources in an interdisciplinary area and my role there is as a researcher in human computer interaction.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Bloomberg in Dec 2014

      Interview

Submitted the application in middle October, got the notification for a phone interview in about 1 month and half. Finally the interview was scheduled in Dec. 12. The whole process was easy and relaxing, the only problem was that the speaker on the other side does not work very well, I can hardly hear the interviewer's voice.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1. Merge two sorted arrays, has been mentioned several times in others' report. 2.Find the largest difference in an array with the constrain that the larger number has to come later in the array. 3. Verify if you could find two numbers in an array that give the summation equal to a given number N. After I gave out a trivial T(n^2) answer, I was asked if any better method exists.
