I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Bloomberg in Apr 2015
Interview
Recruiter found me an opportunity in Bloomberg, I passed the first CV screening stage and I got a call when could I have a phone interview. The phone interview was not too bad, the interviewer was pretty nice and abit helpful, however I had slight problems with understanding his accent as I am not native english speaker.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Some general questions in the beginning, i was asked to tell him something about myself, then why did I choose Bloomberg, and then to describe some technical project I did.
I was asked if i am comfortable with C, to which I said that not very and I would prefer Java. However, the first task I was asked was in C anyway, had to say what would the output of the program be, it was not too bad in the end. I was also asked what is the lifetime of a variable that is created inside the function (till the function block is executed).
Another task was in Java, I was given a list of numbers and I had to write a program, that would write down all pairs of numbers from the list, that added to 8 (5+3, 4+4 ... ) and the numbers could be used just once. I didnt do too well as I needed abit more time to think about it and couldnt think of it on the spot.
Got an email two days later that I was rejected.
15 minutes talking about resume, 45 minutes for 2 medium leetcode style coding questions (using code share), the interviewer was very friendly and communication is even more important than passing all test cases.
Overall, it was a positive and professional interview experience, though the interviewer was on the stricter side. Unfortunately, I was dealing with an illness and wasn't able to prepare as thoroughly as I wanted to, which left me feeling a bit off throughout the conversation. Despite not feeling my best and facing a tough interviewer, the process was well-structured.
Fairly simple. Phone call then onsite. For onsite it was 10 min office tour follow by 1 hr interview then 1 hours system design and 30 mins manager interview. Interviewers were nice and the recruiter was accommodating.
