      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Bloomberg (New York, NY) in Jun 2023

      Interview

Applied online, then 30 min resume screening by HR, 1 hour Zoom interview with Product Manger and Agile Coach. While the interviewers were pleasant and seemed knowledgeable wrt "agile" vernacular. That said, as a senior technologist, I was honestly surprised that both had been with the company over 10 years, one for almost 20 years. This is almost their entire careers, which is highly unusual in tech. I think this logically translates to a more conservative mindset. So, if you choose to interview with them, keep that in mind. Other things I would have like to known prior -- it's a Sales defined product team. Only recently have PM's moved to the Engineering org proper, so Product is not a stand alone org/leadership track, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective. Also, some questions I was asked had absolutely nothing to do with the role. In all honestly it seemed like they were simply curious, perhaps because they hadn't had a similar experience (e.g. a growing a startup, large-scale innovation efforts). I would have interviewed again out of curiosity too, I wasn't at all sold that I would be a good fit for their org -- overall I think they're looking for people who truly are "coaches" (e.g. certified trainers, curriculum writers, vernacular promoters) versus those who have majority execution and tech product leadership experience. But I do wish them the best of luck.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Why do you want to work for Bloomberg? Why do you think you're a good fit for the role? Describe how you develop OKR for mature organizations vs startups. Describe a difficult situation and how you used product thinking to overcome it. Describe how you would coach a PM.
