      Consultant Interview

      May 21, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Atlanta, GA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Boston Consulting Group (Atlanta, GA) in Aug 2018

      Interview

First round was very thorough. Two consultants contacted me for mock interviews and I was told of my interview date well in advance. The interview was with two consultants - one PhD and one MBA (I am a PhD candidate). Each interview started with fit questions - the first interviewer did not seem interested in what I was saying and was looking out the window most of the time. Seems like it was just a tactic to throw people off. The first case was complicated and I felt stuck at multiple points, but the interviewer tried to help me out. The second interviewer was much more kind, and the case was an investment case that was very straightforward. It took one week to find out I made it to the second round. I didn't find out my interview date until later that week, and didn't find out what time I was interviewing until 13 hours before my interview. The second round was much less structured, both on the HR side, and the interviews themselves. The first interviewer was over ten minutes late, and the recruiter was not around so I started panicking. The first interview was very conversational, and a short, easy case. The second interviewer was very curt, the case was difficult and I was persuaded to change my framework mid-case. At the end, the second interviewer asked if I was married or had kids, which is illegal. I had to pester the recruiter and the consultant that I was in contact with in order to get any response. I got a call from a Principal about ten days later that I was rejected, reason being my fit stories weren't developed enough. Was encouraged to apply again.
