This strange interviewing process all began in October, 2010.
The initial interview was a 25-question written essay knowledge/assesment test which I scored so well on that Bridgewater uses it as an example to gauge against other candidates. They also requested two references.
A week later I was sheduled in for a phone interview with two employees of Bridgewater, one which was a member of their technical recruiting HR team and the other a member of their Desktop Support team. This interview was a mix of practical and technical questions which I walked away from not feeling it went well but the Recruiter followed-up a couple hours later indicating it went very well. I wanted to send a thank you message to my interviewers but the Recruiter explained Bridgewater is not allowed to give out last names and e-mail addresses. Now isn't this weird???
I was then invited to Bridgewater's facility the following week to attend what they call a Blitz. This is where a group of candidates and a group of Bridgewater interviewers all meet in a room and they shoot questions out to the candidates. So happened I received a good job offer just before the blitz interview from another company which was an IT Management opportunity and was close to home. I took that position and never attended the Blitz.
The company I went to work for experienced poor financial issues in January and by Feb my position and a few others were eliminated. In contacting my Recruiter he advised me to consider Bridgewater again and I met him with much skeptisim. I eventually agreed and the Recruiter explained what had occured to Bridgewater and they asked for me to take a Systems assesment test which I did and passed with flying colors. They arranged for a face to face instead of a Blitz which was fine by me.
The interview was held on 3/30 but they really should have held it on 4/1 because I could have sword the entire interview was a big joke. Ok I was set to meet with two people from their Desktop Support team who had first names and no last names. Even their security badges did not reflect their last names.
They turn on a recording device and record the entire interview. First they wanted to know why I did not interview with them back in November, ok strike 1 as I thought the Recruiter explained this to them. This should have never been brought up during the interview. If they felt this was an issue, they should have never asked me in for a face to face. Then they asked me another question unrelated to the position which was strike 2 against me and the interview had not even started yet. The main interviewer was very condescending and managed to contardict himself a few times to the point where the other interviewer had to correct him.
One thing to note is that these people never even smile during the interview.
So we get into the interview and coming from an infrastructure background they ask me if I understand this is a Desktop Support role. I tell them yes and it is perfectly fine because I enjoy working with people and helping to solve their IT related issues. Then I made the mistake that cost me the job! I explain to them that this position is the perfect opportunity to get my foot in the door with such an excellent company. Now doesn't that comment encompass almost everything that Ray's 277 principles encompass?
All in all I did get the feeling that I was in some commune, not a company. As bad as I do need a job right now, I doubt very much I would have accepted the offer because they really do not practice what they preach and I have been hearing too many negative issues regarding how they treat their employees. The most common complaint is you can be fired in a heartbeat!
For the question "Overall how difficult was the interview?" I am selecting "Very Difficult" not because any of their questions were difficult but because of the manner in which they conduct their interviews.
