I was reached out to by a recruiter regarding multiple role. I applied online to 2 of the positions as I was highly qualified for both. I was immediately contacted to schedule an interview, I answered multiple questions in the application, as well as the interview set up request. The day of my interview, I was contacted about 20 mins prior to be told they were going in a different direction for both roles and that they would reach out once they had finalized the updated job descriptions. The next day I was told they were proceeding forward with candidates who better matched the roles. I'm not sure if they updated the roles or not with new job descriptions as that was never shared with me. I appreciate at least being told I was no longer in the running, but I think the whole process was very unprofessional.
I understand if there was a mess up and they didn't mean to schedule an interview with me, or if they found a candidate in the meantime that they decided to more forward with. If that's the case though, just come out and say it. They way they went about it makes them come across as lying and deceitful and certainly makes me feel inclined to not apply to future openings as I was left with a negative and unprofessional experience and impression of the company.
