I participated in MANY rounds of interviews, two of which were with the same individuals. Throughout the process, BMS was portrayed as a rather chaotic environment due to ongoing cost-cutting measures and restructuring efforts. Where every day would be at the mercy of shareholders and executives. Morale was low.
The position became available after several long-term employees accepted voluntary resignation packages. It was made clear that they were looking to hire cheap/less experienced labor. While the role was described as important and relatively secure, no assurances could be given regarding future reductions in force. Interviewers were unable to clearly articulate what a typical day would look like, which further reinforced the impression of instability and uncertainty.
During the final round, I met again with potential colleagues. The hiring manager used the discussion to further highlight what experience I lacked and to revisit mistakes I made from the first interview. I appreciated being made aware of this. However, by this point in time, it was unclear why the hiring manager had me go through so many rounds of interviews if they perceived me as lacking the relevant experience. It was brought to my attention that there would likely be more rounds of interviews, assuming I made it through that round(which I did not). It felt like a game and a waste of my time.
Overall, the employees I met seemed genuinely devoted to BMS and proud of the company’s mission. However, the ongoing cost-cutting and layoffs appear to have had a significant impact on morale and the work environment. I hope they found what they were looking for.
