      Buyer Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Buffalo Exchange (Portland, OR) in Jun 2015

      Interview

I applied online, and went into the store (Portland store on west Burnside) a few days later after not hearing back from them. They said they had called me and I didn't pick up. I told them that I never got a call from them, at which point they double checked, and admitted that they in fact had not called me yet. They then proceeded to set up an interview that was 5 days away. I came in ten minutes early for the interview and was taken upstairs to the offices. There was a bag of clothing that I was supposed to look through and tell the manager if I would buy the item for the store or pass and why. There was about 10 items of clothing for both men and women, and one pair of women's shoes. After completing the mock buying process, the manager asked me a few questions like "what is your availability?", "What job are you applying for?", "why do you want to work at Buffalo Exchange?", "Why should we hire you?", "name 3 current fashion trends for this year", "name 3 trends that were big last year but aren't anymore", "Tell me about a situation when you received poor customer service", "How would you describe your personal style?", "Do you read fashion magazines or visit fashion websites and which ones?", "Where do you like to do your online shopping?" and more. I then filled out a personality test which basically asked what you are like vs. how you think other people expect you to be. After the manager scheduled me for a second interview about a week later. When I came in for the second interview it was with another manager who asked me to go to the dress racks and pick out 3 items that i thought would sell quickly and 3 items that I thought would sell slowly and come find her. I picked out my items and went upstairs with her. She asked me about the dresses and why I picked each. She then asked me questions like "When you shop do you window shop or go in with a mission?", "Tell me about a situation when a supervisor was doing something they weren't supposed to and what did you do?", "Tell me about a situation when a coworker was being difficult and what did you do?", basically workplace behavior type questions with a few random ones thrown in. After she told me that she would review everything with the other manager and call me within the next few days. I was called 5 days later by a third manager who told me that they were not hiring me.
