I was contacted by an editor from BDG a week or two after I applied online in late June and was given a three-part edit test with a one-week deadline. They didn't offer compensation for the test in spite of the substantial work it required (three separate assignments that required their own research), but I completed it anyway. Collectively, the whole thing took me about 8 hours. When I sent it in a before the deadline, I got a generic reply later that afternoon from what I assume was their HR email address thanking me for taking the test and inviting me to follow up in 3-4 weeks if I did not hear back before then. After hearing nothing for over 2 weeks, I reached out to the editor who initially contacted me. As others have said on here: radio silence. I let another week pass and replied to the mysterious generic email. Again, nothing. It's been about two months since I submitted the test, and I haven't even heard an update about the position closing.
I've never dealt with a company as unprofessional in their application process as BDG. After reading about other interviews on here, it seems increasingly plausible that this company is scamming applicants to get free content.
