The Beginning of the interview process was as usual! The screening and the first technical round went very well. The HR team was also very good and quite quick with the follow-up and very helpful with my travel arrangement to the facility for the on-site interview.
As soon as I received the on-site call, I was surprised to know that they were flying me all the way to Pittsburgh just to give a phone interview. (Probably wanted to meet the HR in person I guess!)
I guess everything went well over there as well. Somehow I wasn't happy with their technical interviewer. As I was being interviewed on phone, the gentleman on the other side kept leaving the interview for couple of minutes quite often and often as he seemed very busy! I would say throughout an hour of interview, I felt very dis-respected as he kept cutting me to finish his work and once he come back, he would request me to repeat whatever I was saying before! That was kinda very frustrating and rude I guess. (i.e. With all due respect to his super busy workflow!!!)
Somehow, The HR interview was quite opposite. They seemed very nice and respectful people. They went through my whole background rather than only focusing on my resume and typical HR questions. It was kind of different experience than the other HR interviews I have given so far! At the end of the interview, I was given a timeline of 1 week for the decision which turned out to be 2 months (Precisely 1 Month and 25 days!).
The funniest part was the reason they gave me about not hiring me. They mentioned that they are NOT rejecting me for the position. But, they were yet to hire their senior engineer team before hiring freshers!!!(Are you kidding me!!!) And once they build leadership team, I might be reconsidered but it would take long! (What a worst way to reject someone :d)
(Clarification Note: I'm not boasting of myself of being a great fit for any particular organization. That would be completely outrageous from my side. I might not be the good fit they were looking for. Also, I'm not portraying them as wrong regarding the reason they gave me as I also noticed during my on-site visit that the company just started that particular research facility couple of weeks before and there were only 4 employees (All freshers) without any senior team or lead engineer). If that's the case, then it's a huge blunder from the management team for spending so much money on me before hiring any senior team member.
