I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Capgemini (London, England) in Nov 2023
Interview
First stage of the interview process was an online application and then a phone screening with a recruiter.
The second stage was then a first 1-1 interview with a Senior Consultant which was a standard interviewing involving answering competency questions and general questions about why you want to apply for Capgemini, motivation etc.
The final stage was a half day assessment centre where candidates applying for the Senior Consultant and Consultant role were put together in a group and asked to do a group case study exercise. Overall the interview process was pretty seamless and efficient - the recruiter got in touch after the initial application and first interview pretty swiftly and shared a guidance pack for how to prepare for the 1:1 interview and assessment centre which was very helpful.
However unfortunately after the assessment centre was complete things took a turn and turned into quite a negative experience. After not hearing back for over a week I got in touch to ask about the outcome of the assessment centre and was given feedback they felt I did not meet the Senior Consultant level primarily due to a lack of prior consulting experience and instead they would like to offer me the lower grade Consultant role instead. I did make this very clear from the beginning of my job application I didn't have prior consulting experience and I wouldnt accept a lower grade based on my current salary and salary expectations being higher but the recruiter assured me that this was all fine and I could proceed with the recruitment process.
There was then abit of back and forth over whether I could be reconsidered for the Senior Consultant role. I was advised by the recruiter the interview process was complete and if the hiring managers wanted to consider my case then they would arrange a final informal chat. I agreed a time for this chat with a day and a half notice and turns out it was a formal interview like the first 1:1 interview but shorter and with the senior manager instead.
After this I was ghosted for over a week until after chasing I was finally given a call back and final feedback confirming I was not successful overall for the original Senior Consultant role I applied.
Given my experience of the latter stages of the recruitment process, I think it was quite misleading to advise there are no further interviews when I was asked to do a third interview beyond the standard recruitment process for this role. Also having already given an extensive amount of my time doing the first interview and the half day assessment centre and overall waiting 2.5 months to reach a resolution on this job outcome it felt like a significant waste of my time and theirs. Capgemini also reassured me that I would be welcome to apply for future roles if I was still interested which I think is pretty conceited given my poor experience as a candidate.
Overall it is a real shame that my personal experience with the recruitment process went downhill so rapidly after a really positive start and for all they talk about priding themselves on valuing people and diversity and inclusion there was little of that with using solely 1:1 interviews rather than using diverse interview panels.
I am just one case of course so I imagine the majority of interviews won't be the same as my experience but hopefully shows a clear tangible example where Capgemini should reflect on doing better for future candidates.
