I applied online through LinkedIn for a few positions at Catalent in Madison, WI and got an email asking to schedule a phone call to "briefly chat" about the position and discuss the candidate process. The email also stated that "If you applied for multiple roles, we will go through your job applicant profile and chat briefly about those roles." That was a lie apparently, because when it came time for the interview, they only spoke about the QA associate role and when I brought up the other roles I had applied for, I was very snidely told that this interview was for QA only. Along with this, the interviewer never actually told me anything about the QA Associate role as they indicated they would over the email they sent. Instead, they jumped straight into in-depth interview questions that one would usually expect in a formal interview, not a chat on the phone. The kicker for me was when I was thinking of how to phrase one of my answers and the interviewer kept asking me if I was "still there" because apparently 2 seconds is way too long to think of an answer to, "Tell me about a time that you received negative feedback that you did not agree with and how did you react and deal with that?"
In the end, I was not able to ask any questions about the company or the position- I was thanked for my time and 15 minutes later, I received a rejection email.
Could I have prepared more for the interview? Perhaps-if the email they sent had indicated that it was going to be an actual interview instead of the quick overview of the positions I had applied to. I had many questions about each of the positions I applied to and never got to ask them. I have had many interviews over the phone and on video chat during my job hunt, but the phone call I had with Catalent was definitely the absolute worst. It was 20 minutes of my time that was wasted, made worse by the way the interviewer was acting as if I was wasting their time. I understand that the interviewer may have been having a bad day. However, they should keep in mind that there is an actual person on the line with them during these "chats." By rushing through the interview and not allowing for any discussion, it reflected very poorly on the company, giving me a bad impression of how they actually treat their employees once hired. I may not be an expert on QA, but it does not take a genius to know when a company does not value their workers or their thoughts.
